Of the 35 issuers comprising the elite group of companies on the Mexican Stock Exchange, the five biggest winners in this five-and-a-half month rally were Santander with a total increase of 41%, followed by Alfa, Gruma, Grupo Financiero Inbursa and Mexichem with 40.6%, 39.3%, 38% and 36%, respectively.

MONTERREY COMPANIES EXPAND INTO THE USA (EL NORTE 0)

Although they were targeting Mexicans and Latinos who had emigrated to the United States and missed their home country brands, Monterrey companies such as Arca Continental, Grupo Maseca (Gruma) and Sigma Alimentos, as well as Bimbo, have succeeded in their “crossovers" and are now winning over other ethnic groups. This has led the revenue that the United States generates for several Monterrey companies to rise sharply and in some cases, such as Gruma’s, the United States now represents that largest percentage of their total, above even Mexico. This is also the case with Bimbo. Consequently, Raúl Cavazos Morales, Corporate CFO and Strategic Planning with Gruma, outlined that of total net sales, 50% come from the United States, 31% from Mexico and 19% from the rest of the world.
