““After 40 years of operations in this country Gruma knows, through Mission Foods and Azteca Milling, that today people in Mexico and the US share the same table and enjoy the same flavors."”.
Washington, D.C. USA, 25 May 2017. The United States Chamber of Commerce presented the 2017“Good Neighbor Award”to the President and CEO of Gruma, Juan González Moreno because of the great support that Gruma (through its subsidiaries in United States, Mission Foods and Azteca Milling) has given to the Hispanic community, and its contribution to create the Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center, the main purpose of which is to improve Mexico-Texas-United States relations.
Since its creation more than four decades ago, the United States Chamber of Commerce has presented this distinction to ministers, ambassadors, governors, congressmen, former presidents, company CEOs, presidents of organizations, and other people who have significantly encouraged relations between both countries.
After highlighting social programs headed and promoted by Juan González Moreno in the United States to help and support Hispanic communities, the president of the US Chamber of Commerce, Albert Zapanta, presented this recognition to the Mexican businessman.
When he addressed the audience in attendance, the President and CEO of Gruma noted, “In this significant moment in Mexico-United States relations, this award sends a very clear message to the world and to all of us that Mexico and United States are good neighbors and must continue to be so.”
“After 40 years of operations in this country Gruma knows, through Mission Foods and Azteca Milling, that today people in Mexico and the US share the same table and enjoy the same flavors. After all these years, I’d like to reiterate our enthusiasm and commitment to continue supporting the Hispanic community in United States,” added González Moreno.
Likewise, when speaking to businesspeople and special guests from both countries at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS), Mr. González Moreno said, “For me Mexico-US relations are very important, so with great satisfaction and pride, together with the prestigious Southern Texas Methodist University, we founded the Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center, which will enrich our conversations on the economic, political and social ties between Mexico, Texas, and the United States as a whole.
“We want students to prepare for a better future in order to strengthen our brotherhood as countries, and also to generate better business opportunities. For all of us, it would be a great accomplishment to see other companies replicate this initiative in other states and academic institutions in the country,” said Gruma president and CEO, Juan González Moreno.
It should be remembered that Gruma, world leader in corn flour, tortilla and wrap production, began to operate in United States in 1977. The company’s first plant was located in Canoga Park, California.
Today, Gruma has 20 plants manufacturing tortillas and related foods, plus 6 corn flour processors, strategically located all over United States to efficiently serve its clients and consumers.
In the past 12 months, Gruma has invested more than US$100 million-dollars to build in Dallas, Texas, what will soon be the largest and most modern tortilla-producing plant in the world. It will become operational during the second half of this year.
Additionally, Gruma has invested close to US$40 million dollars in its plant in Evansville, Indiana; plus another US$70 million dollars in expanding production capacity at its plants in Lakeland, Florida; Panorama City, California; and Goldsboro, North Carolina, among others.
Sales for multinational Gruma in the United States amounted to $2,024 million dollars in 2016, which represents 54 percent of total company sales worldwide.
